Nokia E72 : Worthwhile to buy ????

Hi all
Hera are few experimental stability problems listed here:
  1. GPS: loses quite often the GPS signal and stop Maps application after a few times getting lost, this happens some days, not others....

  2. Email works so, so... This weeks it has begun to ask for passwords of my gmail and yahoo accounts without any reasons, last time it happened I had to remove all mail boxes, recreate them and then use a tremendous procedure to make it sync my gmail contacts and calendar. All of that creates multiple copies of my contacts and appointments (dozens, sometimes thousands....). In fact it creates copies as long as it doesn't successfully sync every thing and then it keeps syncing all the copies with all the sources (E72, gmail, gcalendar, ovi). It happens every other month. THIS IS VERY VERY ANNOYING and non professional.

  3. Random reboots : once a week...wether you are using updated version or not. dosen't matter to reboot.
  4. Battery life is no more than 2 days without wifi but with Bluetooth and 3G....

  5. It keeps finding some contacts with conflicts but self solve it almost every day! There is usually no reason for that (I did not changed anything about these particular contacts). From time to time, I have to hand solve some of those conflicts.

  6. The gps search function is not reliable: it needs to be questioned on line and doesn't find anything if you don't ask for words in the same order: quite a problem when you search in a non English language.

  7. The screen resolution and size are more or less inappropriate with some graphics in the maps application, ovi store.

  8. Loading html mails is so slow that I prefer not to do it: again a basic counter functionality with the so claimed "Mail machine" marketing position.

  9. Some warning message, usually displayed for a few seconds, vanish from the screen before I can just unlock the screen saver: they are not stored anywhere, you just should keep permanently an eye on that screen guy. Usually those are the ones that requires some real care from you.

  10. Some warning messages reflecting just a loss of 3G connection (quite usual for a gps in a tunnel for instance or just driving on a motorway in the countryside) do need some confirm action from you while they could very well be vanishing after a few seconds: in fact this right the opposite from point 9: no delay can be set off and you do not have a "do not ask me again" setup. Neither a "keep a log for that" setup...

  11. Network loss is so high even in your room it goes away.

  12. Takes hell lot of time to get re-registered with network if you just make profile ONLINE after a flight.

  13. Ovi keeps creating contacts named "Unknown".

  14. Ovi reformats your addresses (postal ones) for a non standard manner. That makes it a mess within each contact. See point 11 above for my opinion.

  15. Ovi limits the number of emails addresses per contact.

  16. The roughly one thousand contacts par phone is rapidly reached with the sync problems at points 2, 5, 11, 12, 13 happen. By the end, I think, they have never had any professional use of their phones...

  17. Battery life with GPS is 2 hours or so: don't use it if not in car with their power cable.

  18. Geotagging works every other day: you can not use simultaneously nokia maps and geotagging for photos. It gives random positioning in any application.

  19. MEMORY FULL : nokia's native error

  20. Loading contacts more than 3800 cracks the contact search function.
This is a short list but it ruins any serious use of this machine: what works one day cease to function the other day, what is important to you is not to them.

Obviously, the hardware is correct. The software is ruined by no testing before broadcast. Nokia should fix these issues if they check these...

Nokia Messaging Service Troubleshoot

I set up my Nokia Messaging account with my Windows Live Hotmail email address, but I am not receiving any email?
Windows Live Hotmail requires the latest Nokia Messaging phone software. You may be using an older version of the software. Point your phone browser to email.nokia.com and download the software from there. After you install the new version, the Nokia Messaging software will automatically launch. Click the Sync button to begin receiving your Windows Live Hotmail.

My mobile phone displays an error message about not being able to connect to the Internet. What do I do?
Your access point may be incorrectly defined or your mobile phone may be out of network coverage. An access point is a setting your mobile phone uses to connect to the Internet. You can change what access point Nokia Messaging uses within the Settings.Ensure that your phone is within network coverage and that your access points are correctly defined. If necessary, you can download new access points from the Settings (in the Tools folder) on your phone.

I get a 'This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification 500: Failure' error when sending an email. What does this mean?
In rare cases, Nokia Messaging cannot send emails because your email provider's SMTP server settings are incorrectly configured, or because your email provider will not allow Nokia Messaging to send email through their server. If you are receiving this error, log into your account at email.nokia.com, select Edit Settings on the account that is receiving error, select Change Server Settings and remove the information in Outgoing mail server and Outgoing server port and uncheck SSL Required for outgoing mailserver, and select Save. This will cause your emails to be sent through the Nokia Messaging server and should resolve the problem.

I get an error message when I try to get my email on my mobile phone in another country. What does this mean?
Nokia Messaging requires Internet connectivity. Most often this error is due to the fact that your operator does not have roaming agreements with operators in that country.

I am not getting email on my mobile phone any more. What do I do?
If your account is active and you are not receiving email on your mobile phone, check for the following circumstances:
  • You may have changed the password for your email address with your email service provider. If so, you must update the Nokia Messaging settings for this email address with your new password. Email messages will then be delivered to your phone.
  • The server for your email address is down. For more information, contact your email service provider.
My question was not answered here.

Nokia Messaging Service - NMS

Hi All

Its being a 2 year that Nokia had withdrawn support of Blackberry Connect.
So why Nokia did and what Nokia had instead of ????????

Why Nokia did ?
Nokia wanted to compete with Blackberry as the majority of email space has been captured by them. They had started early and had vast coverage with goodwill. So blackberry became as enterprise addiction. Nokia saw a mass coverage of email ecosystem with good number of outreach which if Nokia cover can take up their mail devices( e-series) up to a new benchmark.

What Nokia had instead ?
Nokia in order to curb blackberry and outreach masses of enterprise had launched their own push mail service commonly known as NMS: Nokia Messaging service.NMS gives user to define 10 different mailboxes both private and public. It delivers more then blackberry as follows:

  1. Folder Sync
  2. 8 ways of email sorting
  3. Numerous shortcut keys
  4. Flexibility to use as pull mail as well
  5. Text view and HTML view both
  6. No limit for attachment
  7. Over the air setup http://email.nokia.com
  8. Trash folder
  9. Free style
  10. Push cut off when less battery remains
Setup is one major feature of NMS as it is very easy to setup. Check out this video for NMS setup :

All your public email ids can be configured like as shown in video but if you are trying to configure your corporate POP3/IMAP4 email ids then do take following data from your IT administrator.

Server Type : pop3/imap4
Incomming mail server:________
Security Port : ______________(SSL, SSL/TLSs, start TLS)
Port No: __________________(110,995,993 etc)

Outgoing mail server:__________
Security Port :_______________ (SSL, SSL/TLSs, start TLS)
Port No:___________________ (25,465,587 etc)

Hope this will help......
Enjoy Nokia's Push mail service.

Four new Nokia Cseries mobiles add affordable ways to connect.
June 03, 2010

Starting at EUR 30 with '2-in-1' double-SIM solution; full dual-SIM Nokia C2 to follow at the end of the fourth quarter.

Nairobi, Kenya - At a media conference held today in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, Nokia unveiled its latest Cseries mobile phones with three new products under the Nokia C1 name, as well as the new dual-SIM Nokia C2 which will follow at the end of the fourth quarter of 2010. At the same event, Nokia also took the wraps off the Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit, an alternative charging solution built especially for people with limited access to electricity.

The most affordable of the Nokia C1 trio (C1-00) is priced at EUR 30 before taxes and subsidies and is the first Nokia mobile phone to feature a 2-in-1 double SIM solution. "By simply holding down a key, people are able to switch between SIM cards. This enables them to take advantage of reduced call rates, flexibility when traveling from one country to another, or helps with sharing a phone within a family and still use their own SIM," said Alex Lambeek, Vice President at Nokia. "This is a great added convenience feature considering the low price of the phone."

Nokia C1-00

Nokia C1 owners will also benefit from a standby battery time of up to six weeks, the longest ever for a Nokia mobile phone, especially useful in those parts of the world where access to electricity is sometimes limited. The standard flashlight - often someone's only means of bright light - is paired with a vivid color screen and FM radio with standard headphone jack, meaning the Nokia C1 is as much about entertainment as it is about convenience.

The Nokia C2 features a dual SIM with dual standby capability. Along with the many capabilities of the Nokia C1, the Nokia C2 can also keep both SIM cards active; meaning calls and text messages can come to either number while the phone is on. The first SIM card on the Nokia C2 sits underneath the battery and the second is 'hot-swappable', a feature unique to Nokia which means it can be removed and inserted when the phone is on.

Nokia C2-00

Where available, the Nokia C2 also offers a wide range of information covering healthcare, agriculture, education and entertainment via Nokia's Ovi Life Tools, as well as the email account for the developing world, Ovi Mail. In addition to Ovi Mail, people's favorite consumer email and chat accounts can be pushed direct to the phone via Nokia Messaging. Listening to music is simple with the FM radio and music player, with a massive amount of music storage with the phone supporting micro-SD cards of up to 32GB.

The second and third devices in the Nokia C1 family (C1-01 and C1-02) are both single SIM products, and Nokia's most affordable devices offering microSD compatibility, enabling people to store up to 32 GB of music, photography, or whatever other media suits them. Both new devices bring very individual designs and exciting colors, bright color screens, web browsing over GPRS and access to Nokia web services such as Nokia Messaging. In addition, owners of the Nokia C1 (C1-01) will also be able to take video and photographs using the built-in VGA camera.
          Nokia C1-01                                       Nokia C1-02
New alternative charging solution debuts

Providing free and environmentally friendly electricity for mobile phones, the Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit consists of a charger and dynamo, as well as a holder to secure the phone to the bike. When the kit is installed, the dynamo - a small electrical generator - uses the movement of the wheels to charge the handset through the standard 2mm charging jack used in most Nokia mobile phones. Lambeek continued, "You must look at a number of things when it comes to power management - such as ensuring the phone's operating system is as power-efficient as possible. Now, with our innovative bike charger, people get even more freedom to use their Nokia without worrying about battery life. Bicycles are the most widespread means of transport in many markets around the world, so this is just one more benefit to be gained from an activity people are already doing. This is a great solution to a real challenge, whether people will use it due to limited access to electricity, or to be more environmentally responsible." The kit will be available before the end of the year in selected retailers and Nokia online and branded retail.
The estimated retail prices of the new Nokia mobile phones, before taxes and subsidies, are:
Nokia C1 (C1-00) EUR 30

Nokia C1 (C1-02) EUR 35

Nokia C1 (C1-01) EUR 39

Nokia C2 (C2-00) EUR 45

The Nokia C1 (C1-00) is expected to ship in the third quarter of 2010, with the Nokia C1 (C1-01) in the early fourth quarter, and the Nokia C1 (C1-02) and Nokia C2 towards the end of the fourth quarter 2010.

PUSH MAIL : PULL MAIL

In the era of email mobility majority people in India use email as mode of communication for both official and personal uses. Under nokia product portfolio many devices have email feature into them but Nokia has designed specialized series for mailing commonly known as E-Series mobiles standing for Enterprise Series Mobiles. These devices have both the feature of PUSH and PULL mail. As according to the requirement a person can choose what mailing system is best suited to him/her.

What is PULL mail: “It’s a system of mailing where the initiation process is triggered by the mobile and connects to the email server at a fixed interval of time and pulls out mails which have arrived in between the interval of time”. Or the way your MS Outlook works.

What is Push mail: ‘’It’s a system of mailing where the initiation process is triggered by the server and pushes mail to mobiles as soon as email hits over the email server”.

Why PULL mail: Many people receive very less number of emails on daily basis and don’t want to be connected online 27*7. Moreover people also don’t want to use network data plan of the service provider as for many people these data plan are costly and they want to use it only in case of urgency. Pull mail solution helps in both the terms as once can choose when to connect and what internet mode to be used (service provider data plan or Wi-Fi).

Why PUSH mail: In today’s fast moving life everyone wants everything instantly. So in terms of emails, push mail is fast in delivering emails to mobile and one is not supposed to wait for mail to get retrieved. Nowadays there is lot of data plans which makes more people to attract towards push mail. Moreover even normal GPRS plan is also capable of doing so.

Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia Debuts

Good new for all people who are having Nokia E72,E52 and working on microsoft exchange server the long awaited Microsoft Office Communicator is now released. The below is a small brief about MS Office Communicator as released on the microsoft webpage.

Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia Debuts

First deliverable from Microsoft and Nokia alliance aims to simplify mobile collaboration.

REDMOND, Wash., and ESPOO, Finland — May 4, 2010 — Microsoft Corp. and Nokia today launched the first application from their alliance around mobile productivity, Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia devices. This new unified communications client connects directly with a company’s communications systems to streamline mobile collaboration. Owners of a number of Symbian-based Nokia Eseries smartphones can download the English version today from Nokia’s Ovi Store, the easiest place to get content on their Nokia devices.

“Our alliance with Nokia aims to bring the Microsoft Office productivity experience to the millions of people using Nokia smartphones around the world,” said Kirt Debique, general manager, Microsoft Office Communications Platform & Solutions Group, Microsoft. “With the arrival of Communicator Mobile for Nokia today, we have a great start to fulfilling our joint vision.”

Communicator Mobile enables people to see their colleagues’ availability and click to communicate with them using the best method, from instant messaging and e-mailing to texting and making a phone call. The names and statuses of colleagues are embedded directly into the devices’ contacts application, enabling people to update their own presence, start and join instant messaging sessions, and begin calls directly from the contact card.

“This application really provides a much more efficient way to work with others, as you can see if someone is busy or available and the best way to start a conversation with them,” said Ukko Lappalainen, vice president at Nokia. “It also meets all of the requirements for the enterprise: cost-effective to implement, secure, familiar and reliable.”

The launch is the first product from the alliance — announced this past August — which was the first time either company had embarked on an agreement of this scope and nature. Since then, the two companies have been collaborating on the design and development of new solutions, as well as embarking on joint marketing efforts around others they already share.

“As part of our push to constantly enhance our unified communications proposition, we are keen to extend the collaborative benefits of Microsoft Communicator Mobile to Nokia devices,” said Scott Petty, director of Vodafone Products and Services, Vodafone Group Business Services. “Communicator Mobile offers great potential for our large corporate customer base who have already deployed Communicator for desktop and now are looking to extend that existing infrastructure to mobile.”

“We trial all potential offerings ourselves and have been very happy with the internal response and productivity increase we have experienced using Microsoft Communicator Mobile,” said Roger Wüthrich-Hasenböhler, executive vice president at Swisscom/Webcall. “Having these two companies work together is really helping us serve the needs of our customers.”

This new application, available initially for Nokia E72 and Nokia E52, adds to the work Nokia is already doing in optimizing direct access to e-mail and other personal information with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. The companies plan to deliver Communicator Mobile for Nokia pre-installed on select Nokia smartphones in the future and plan to support additional devices, including the recently announced Nokia E5.

Nokia Messaging New Features

Nokia is rolling out an update for Nokia Messaging for Email over the next few weeks – the first piece being a client update for S60 5th edition devices. This update is available as “Nokia Messaging 10.2” in the Software Update application on your phone.

To answer what will likely be a popular question – “but, what about my device”, nokia is going to be rolling this client for S60 3rd edition on messaging.nokia.com in the next few weeks and will let people know when it’s available. We’ve also got some server-side features in the works that we’ll be discussing shortly. Nokia Messaging is truly a service: continually evolving and adding features.

Here are the highlights of the client release:

•Localized in 38 languages

•Support for Destinations on S60 5th edition devices

•Improvements to on-device-setup wizard

•Deleted items folder now automatically empties itself, faster client deletions

•Various bug fixes

After getting many S60 5th edition users’ feedback about Destinations support,Using your devices’ Destinations feature, you simply add your preferred WiFi access points to the Internet Destination (or any other Destination that you configure), and Nokia Messaging will automatically switch to it when it’s available.

Nokia have also made several improvements to the setup wizard, based on analysis of where users typically encounter errors during setup. Another area we’ve made improvements is in deletion handling – the ‘Deleted Items’ folder will now automatically clear emails older than three days that it previously kept, and deletions are snappier in the client in this release. Finally, we’ve fixed a few nagging bugs including restoring “Send with Nokia Messaging” from the Gallery, and you can now properly attach files from the N97’s memory card.
If you’re curious about version numbers – they’re admittedly a bit confusing. S60 5th edition will see 10.2.04 as the version number in the client. On Software Update on your device, this release will be identified as 10.2.
